Arnica in Traditional MedicineArnica montana, a wildflower that grows in the high mountains of Europe, has likely been used as a healing herb since the Middle Ages1. The first documentation of the use of Arnica as a medicinal plant in Europe dates from the 1500s.
Folklore tells us that humans learned the value of Arnica by observing mountain goats, who would clamber to find the Arnica plant after falling or stumbling. Following the animals’ lead, locals began to apply the herb for bruises, mostly in the form of external salves or steeped in teas. This explains its German name, Fallkraut or “fall herb.”

"A bath bomb should be used within 3-4 weeks of being made. the fresher the better as the essential oils and shea, mango and cocoa butters do start to evaporate and dry out."
-by Leah Chevallier, Artisan Bath Bomber at Chuckling Duckling Farm
What the fizz?
The truth is that the fresher the bath bomb, the faster it will fizz. Do you care if your bomb fizzes at warp speed or not? If not, then fear not... BUT your bathtime bliss will be more hydrating and moisturizing to your skin if you DO use your treats within the first 3-4 weeks.
Obviously you can keep them longer, months really. But over time the 2 main ingredients (Citric Acid & Baking Soda) will start to oxidize, and eventually they bind to each other (which reduces the fizz-ability factor.)
Another important note is the natural blends of hydrating oils and rich butters (like cocoa butter, shea butter and mango butter) start to dry out over time when exposed to the air. So if you want to keep your moisture in your bombs and make the most of them, be sure to:
What about sensitive skin?
Anybody can use a bath bomb obviously avoiding essential oils or ingredients that one might be allergic to (ie. citrus, lavender etc..) Our bath bombs are extremely gentle as they are 100% natural, non-toxic ingredients.
Our only item that has SLS (for extra bubbles) is the Tub Truffles. If you are sensitive (like I am), then perhaps stay away from the tub truffles or use rarely.
What about glitter in the bath tub?
We choose to stay away from glitter and huge amounts of colorant. For me personally, the bath bomb experience is about hydration, relaxation and scent. I don't see the need for fillers and extra ingredients that bring no value to the bath experience. Not to mention, the idea of cleaning glitter out of my lady parts does NOTHING for me! Same goes for the excess colours, we prefer natural essential oils, mild BPA-free colorant and add dried plant, floral and herb content for visual impact.
What if I don't like dried petals in my water?
No problem! Put your bath bomb in a muslin tea bag or stainless tea ball strainer. Let the goodness of the ingredients infuse your bath water and leave the dried petals and flowers in the strainer to toss out later. Super easy cleanup!
Can I personalize a Bath Bomb?
Yes! We do it all the time! We do shower gifts, wedding and brides maid gifts where we are matching colours, themes etc. We can also do multi-tone colours and specific scents. Just email us and we will get your wish into our production schedule. Just give us at least 2 weeks notice for custom orders. If you are looking for custom packaging, we do that as well. Custom, branded labels, personalized messages etc. We even do messages INSIDE our bath bombs! Yes, they are water proof!
I hope that answers a few of your questions, feel free to email if you have others! If you share this post on Facebook, your name will be entered into a draw for a Bombs Away Gift Box! Good luck!

Is your face feeling dry and parched? Are you confused as to how it can feel so dry when you live in a humid climate? (I have always been confused by that).
Although cold, windy winter days contribute to dryness, it's actually the air indoors that causes most of our skin issues in winter. Why? Because during the winter months we tend to turn up the thermostat to stay warm, but it causes severe dryness to the skin. Our faces and hands are the most exposed, therefore they suffer the most.
Tip: Turn down the thermostat at night and sleep with a humidifier in your room to combat the dry air.
What oils are best for face serums?
We stock over 22 different types of carrier oils, each with a specific profile and purpose to bring moisture in the right amounts, to the right right body parts. Your face serum requires a lightness that absorbs into the fine skin and does not leave a greasy residue; all while adding back lost moisture, anti-oxidants and vitamins.
Some of our high quality oils for serums include: Pomegranate Seed Oil, Grapeseed Oil, Avocado Oil, Jojoba Oil, Raspberry Seed Oil, Evening Primrose Oil & Rosehip Oil to name a few. Our face serums are rich in anti-oxidants and glide on beautifully, with no greasy residue. They absorb quickly and leave your skin feeling plump and soft. After carefully blending our luxurious, all natural serums, we then add various essential oils based on your skin type. *We can do custom scenting as well.
How to Use A Face Serum:
1. Use your regular cleanser & wash your face, slightly patting dry. Leaving some moisture is good as the serum will lock it in.
2. Choose a serum based on your general skin type (Oily, Sensitive, Dry), different oils and essential oils will help re-nourish your skin while respecting it's natural state.
3. Put 4-5 drops of your face serum on the palms of your hands and rub together to distribute evenly. Then gently apply to your entire face and neck, eyes included but obviously careful not to get into your eyes.
4. Massage gently and leave to dry naturally. Some follow right away with a moisturizer, I prefer to leave as-is in the evening but if I do a morning application (with fewer drops) I will follow up with a moisturizer.
Note: I only apply 2-3 drops in the morning; right after my shower and let it lock in the moisture and absorb while I drink my coffee and start my day. I do follow up with a moisturizer before applying make-up.

What is The Difference Between Epsom Salts, Dead Sea Salts, Himalayan Sea Salts or Celtic?
Everyone has heard of epsom salts for soaking after a round of golf or vigorous sports, but then there are the Dead Sea Salts, Himalayan Sea Salts & Celtic Sea Salts.
How do you know what the differences are? Are there any? What are the specific benefits of each, both topically or ingesting?
If you suffer from:
Dead Sea and Epsom salts vary in source and composition but provide similar healing benefits. Epsom salts, originally made famous by the mineral baths in Epsom, England, may be derived from a variety of natural sources; however, Dead Sea mineral salts must come from the Dead Sea, a saline lake located 400 meters below sea level in Israel.
Epsom salts contain high levels of magnesium and sulfates, whereas Dead Sea mineral salts contain high levels of magnesium, potassium, calcium chloride, sodium and bromide. Sulphates or sulfur is a part of some of the amino acids in your body and is involved in protein synthesis, as well as several enzyme reactions It helps with the production of collagen, which is a substance that forms connective tissues, cell structure and artery walls. Additionally, it is a part of keratin, giving strength to hair, skin and nails.
Both types of salts provide various nourishing elements which absorb through the skin through topical use. The nutrients provided vary according to the type of salt, but both salts benefit similar conditions.
Did you know that by soaking your whole body or even just your feet in epsom salts, you can increase your internal magnesium levels?
What does THAT do you ask?
Magnesium is essential for your muscles to work properly and helps you avoid the need for muscle relaxers. It has been proven that low magnesium is related to high inflammation in the body.
Dead Sea salts and Epsom salts provide nutritive elements through absorption by the skin. Individuals visit the Dead Sea to experience mud baths and soak in the mineral rich waters. Homes and hospitals also use Dead Sea and Epsom salt baths in the treatment of skin and muscular conditions. While research supports external use of Dead Sea salts and Epsom salts, always seek the advice of your personal physician before selecting a specific treatment.
Himalayan Sea Salts & Celtic Salts
Himalayan Salt is claimed by many to be the purest salt available on the planet. With a history dating back to Earth’s creation, it is believed to be composed of dried remnants of the original, primal sea.
Known as “pink gold,” Himalayan crystal salt is actually a beautiful translucent pink and contains all of the 84 elements found in your body. Because of fantastic nutrient profile, doctors report that regularly eating Himalayan salt can help:
Celtic Sea Salt
Another ancient commodity, Celtic Sea Salt® is comparable to Himalayan crystal salt in its composition and health benefits. Being of a grayish hue, it is naturally harvested in Brittany France near the Celtic Sea using a 2,000-year old Celtic method that is crucial to preserving its life-giving nutrition profile.
It has been reported that Celtic Sea Salt® is powerfully beneficial for your health and can help:
Interestingly, this salt will retain its moisture and will be moist to touch, in spite of how you store it. Think of this as a gentle reminder of its ocean-source and continual life-giving properties!
Bathing- throw in the tub for a detoxifying Himalayan salt bath. The replenishing nutrients stimulate circulation and soothe sore muscles. Naturally rich in 80+ nourishing and skin-replenishing minerals, bathing with pink bath salt is a healing and therapeutic experience for mind and body.
Body Scrub - Use as a body scrub (fine grain is gentlest), helps detoxify and exfoliate at the same time. Our blends below have essential oils, rich hydrating oils and natural ingredients to make the most of your bath salt soak and experience.
Avoid Epsom salt baths if you are sensitive to sulfur. Always use caution, as skin sensitivity, skin rashes, allergic reactions and respiratory distress may occur in some individuals. Seek the advice of your personal physician before applying Dead Sea salt or Epsom salt therapies.

NEED some therapeutic bath salts for muscle fatigue & stress?
~by Leah Chevallier, The Freckled Farm Girl
I have a genuine love affair with fresh herbs, I grow them in pots, raised beds, in a greenhouse and use them for everything from cooking to face products and bath bombs. So when I saw this photo of the 'kitchens from the future', my jaw dropped. Wow! Imagine slideout drawers of fresh greens, herbs at your fingertips all year round! I drooled over this for a few minutes before starting a cyber search for possible local product or manufacturing. A girl has to keep her eco footprint small!
To my delight, there actually is a company right here in Surrey, BC as a matter of fact. They are making a micro, mini version that could fit under any countertop! Are you as excited as I am?!
