~by Leah Chevallier, The Freckled Farm Girl
Conversations with my tween have taught me that when things are going fine, the words flow effortlessly and fall off the tongue and lips with ease. These fluid conversational rivers just happen; while driving in the car, walking in #FortLangley, talking at the dinner table. Words. Kind words, thoughtful words, EASY words.
Then there are the other times. The train wreck times when all I can utter is "Seriously?"
The times when she (and sometimes me) are not as buttery smooth and amiable with our feelings. The filters are gone. The words are just so damn difficult to find. We are tired, irritable and moody and somehow the tone changes and with it our words, our sentences, our vocabulary.
Our dialogue hits these pot holes and stumbles around and we find ourselves falling into habits of using negative phrases, flat unproductive banter. We are unsupportive, dismissive & vacant.
Not just with each other, but even to ourselves. That self-defeating brain chatter. We forget to pat ourselves and each other on the back for the simple achievements and accomplishments through the course of a day, a week, a month, a year.
So we decided to change it. We are looking for new words and new ways to boost each other up when we are stumbling, crashing or downright miserable. (Yes, I need boosting some days too!)
I realized I needed to be the role model with the vocabulary. The example of what the self-chatter vocab should look and sound like.
I needed to keep reiterating positive words and phrases to her, and do it consistently.
Being an entrepreneur at heart, I had a ta-da! moment. I decided to create a product to emphasize all of this. The importance of positive self-talk, empowering girls to look for strong, powerful phrases, life mentors, role models, power words. I struggled with what that might look like. I brought the idea to my daughter, Sophie and she LOVED it. Then she casually reminded me that words come from our mouths, our lips. Our lips share our feelings, our thoughts, our souls...so what better way to share this message than through a lip balm! #WordsMatter was born!
So today, we not only launch our new (very much a work-in-progress) website) but we also launch our #WordsMatter All Natural Lip Balms. Not only did we create the line with powerful, positive words and definitions, we connected with the team at www.MalalasFund.Org and got permission to use her #WithMalala hashtag on our product. (Thank you Fatima & Malala!) Malala is a voice for girls around the globe. Helping them access education, free speech and empowerment. She is the epitome of what a strong girl from this generation looks like. Go read her moving story.
So please come take a look at our #WordsMatter Lip Balms and grab a few as stocking stuffers! Which one are you?
ARTISTIC, CREATIVE, BRILLIANT, FIERCE, GENEROUS
We have launched with Strawberry but more flavours are coming very soon. We will also be holding a contest on Instagram to chose the next 5 words for our second #WordsMatter flavour; we want your input!
PS. I'd love to connect on Instagram here! Half the fun of creating products is taking fun photos of them! Watch for our contests too!
