While some types of bath salts, such as Pink Himalayan salt, can be used for cooking and seasoning, it is important to note that not all bath salts are food-grade and should not be used for consumption.  It is important to to know that bath salts and table salts are not the same. Table salt ( the generic white salt in most pantries) is mostly made up of sodium chloride, while bath salts are a combination of different minerals, such as magnesium, potassium and calcium. Bath salts are designed to dissolve in water and be used for therapeutic purposes, such as soothing sore muscles or promoting relaxation, while table salt is used primarily for cooking and seasoning food.

Bath salts have been used for centuries for their therapeutic properties. Dead Sea salt, Epsom salt, and Pink Himalayan salt are the most popular bath salts used today. Although these salts share some similarities, each one has its own unique characteristics and benefits.

Dead Sea Salt

Dead Sea salt is sourced from the Dead Sea, which is located between Jordan and Israel. The Dead Sea is a saltwater lake that is renowned for its high concentration of salt and minerals. This sea salt contains a wide variety of minerals, including magnesium, potassium, and calcium.

One of the unique benefits of Dead Sea salt is its ability to relieve skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, and acne. It also has anti-inflammatory properties, making it a popular choice for those with joint pain or muscle soreness. Dead Sea salt is also known to improve circulation, promote relaxation, and help detoxify the body.

Epsom Salt

Epsom salt is a type of magnesium sulphate that is named after the town of Epsom in England where it was first discovered. Epsom salt is a popular bath salt due to its ability to relieve sore muscles, reduce inflammation, and promote relaxation. It is widely used by athletes, and those who suffer from muscle and joint pain.

Magnesium is a crucial mineral that the body needs and soaking in an Epsom salt bath is an effective way to absorb this mineral through the skin.

Pink Himalayan Salt

Pink Himalayan salt is uniquely from the salt mines in Pakistan. This salt is contains over 84 different minerals and trace elements, including calcium, potassium, and iron, making it one of the purest forms of salt available.

Pink Himalayan salt is very popular for cooking and as a finishing salt thanks to its unique flavour and mineral content. It is also a well loved bath salt for its soothing and relaxing capabilities. It is said that these pretty pink salts help improve skin hydration, reduce inflammation, and promote better sleep. Toss a 1/2 cup of this skin loving salt in your next bath!
