FIre shuts down our store
<CONTINUED> ....
Going forward, we are trying very hard to save our main fixtures, the restoration company is working on our antiques, cabinets etc and we are waiting to hear if the floors were cleaned and dried fast enough to save as well. Glad I insisted on staying until a water extraction crew came at 4am the night of the fire otherwise, letting them sit until an insurance adjustor showed up would have taken days. (Literally, he showed up 6 days after the fire).
We lost somewhere between 80-90% of our stock to smoke and water damage and once we know where the final insurance lands, will ramp up accordingly. Our cash flow was devastated during COVID, as we were closed for 84 days. We pushed through with zero CERB handouts from the government and focussed on internet sales, hand sanitizer and gift baskets. We were only open 10 days before being devastated by the fire. We do have a go dund me page set up to help us with much needed cash flow to just survive as a single mom with no other revenues.
To add to our stresses, my boyfriend/partner landed in hospital for 3 weeks with a life threatening organ rupture that required 2 emergency surgeries and he was released from hospital 2 days after the fire. He is a Keynote Speaker whose national industry was wiped out globally with COVID and as such, no income to speak of. Literally.
We will be making some products available on the website and will be updating the items that were in transit, or off site at the time of the fire. We will also be making some FIRE SALE GRAB BAGS to generate some income as we fight with insurance companies for our business disruption insurance. These bags will be 2 soaps and 2 bath bombs, but just a mix of what we have available.
We will keep everything posted as to how things are going and please know that I appreciate the love, and outpouring of support from our little community more than I can possibly put into words.
With love and gratitude,
Leah
