How Can Consumers Engage In Zero-Waste Locally?

How Can Consumers Engage In Zero-Waste Locally?

How can consumers can do their part in supporting zero-waste initiatives?

  • Reducing consumption and look to buying second hand, repurposing and repairing things before automatically looking to buy a replacement.
  • Buy products that have minimal packaging, or that are packaged in materials that can be easily recycled. Consumers can also choose to buy products that are made from renewable or sustainable materials.
  • Refill consumable goods at a local refill store, items such as cleaning products, soaps, hair care and more

Calm After Covid

Calm After Covid

Well the inevitable plague got us literally on the last day of 2021! My daughter and I both came down with what we thought were colds just after boxing day, and to our surprise, we both tested positive for Covid.

It is a bit of a blur, but overall, we are grateful to have been down with mild symptoms with only 1-2 days of serious discomfort. Glad to have the antibodies and to be on the other side of that and 2021... what a year! From fire insurance, store theft, weeks after starting to reopen from the fire, to heat domes, forest fires, losing 2 sweet pets to the heat wave and then flash floods in the fall to crazy snowstorms. This year has served us up a little bit of everything.

Has it been tough?

Have we learned anything?

You bet we have! We have learned that gratitude can be found in the darkest of corners and in the tiniest of moments. That complete strangers can be bring you to your knees in a puddle of tears, with their thoughtfulness and generosity. Our community of Fort Langley is truly out of a story book, with its film worthy charm and character,  along with a community of residents with a genuine backbone of solidarity, support and love for one another.  I cannot imagine ever living anywhere else. If you need to go through a plague, store fire, heat wave, flash flood or any catastrophic event.... this is the place to do it.

In light of Covid changing the landscape on so many levels, my heart aches for the businesses that have been forced to close their doors. For the ugly division that is happening between the vaccinated and vaccine-free crowds, I wish we could all just respect each other's decisions regarding medical rights and not force our opinions on others. We should all be working together on big picture humanity right now, not myopic, individual agendas. Respect each other, speak without judgement and without tainted vocabulary. You are triple vaccinated? Great, glad you are confident in your choice! Your are unvaccinated? Great, glad you feel confident in your choice. I respect you either way.

So here we are looking forward into 2022 and believing, manifesting, praying that 2022 WILL be a million times better than 2021 (and 2020)... and with all the love and light I can muster on this blustery, winter day, I am sending you all a huge Happy New Year hug and massive thank you for all your support this past year.

Anatomy Of a Bath Bomb

Anatomy Of a Bath Bomb

What the fizz?
The truth is that the fresher the bath bomb, the faster it will fizz. Do you care if your bomb fizzes at warp speed or not? If not, then fear not... BUT your bathtime bliss will be more hydrating and moisturizing to your skin if you DO use your treats within the first 3-4 weeks.

Obviously you can keep them longer, months really. But over time the 2 main ingredients (Citric Acid & Baking Soda) will start to oxidize, and eventually they bind to each other (which reduces the fizz-ability factor.)

Moisturizing Properties
Another important note is the natural blends of hydrating oils and rich butters (like cocoa butter, shea butter and mango butter) start to dry out over time when exposed to the air. So if you want to keep your moisture in your bombs and make the most of them, be sure to:
  • Keep them in air tight containers with tight fitting lids or use ziploc bags.
  • Make sure you keep your scents wrapped as they will infuse each other; they play very well together in a group setting! SO if you do not want your lemongrass mingling with your coconut lime bath bomb, keep them apart!
  • Read the labels of your products. Some bombs are meant to drop right into the bath and fizz and dance around the tub. Others are meant to be crumbled under running water (usually to get more foam and bubbles)
  • Keep your natural bombs wrapped well as the essential oils used to scent these heavenly creatures will evaporate and lose their properties.

What about sensitive skin?
Anybody can use a bath bomb obviously avoiding essential oils or ingredients that one might be allergic to (ie. citrus, lavender etc..)  Our bath bombs are extremely gentle as they are 100% natural, non-toxic ingredients.

What about glitter in the bath tub?
We choose to stay away from glitter and huge amounts of colorant. For me personally, the bath bomb experience is about hydration, relaxation and scent. I don't see the need for fillers and extra ingredients that bring no value to the bath experience. Not to mention, the idea of cleaning glitter out of my lady parts does NOTHING for me! Same goes for the excess colours, we prefer natural essential oils, mild, GMO-free and BPA-free colorant and add dried plant, floral and herb content for visual impact.

What if I don't like dried petals in my water?
No problem! Put your bath bomb in a muslin tea bag or stainless tea ball strainer. Let the goodness of the ingredients infuse your bath water and leave the dried petals and flowers in the strainer to toss out later. Super easy cleanup!

Can I personalize a Bath Bomb?
Yes! We do it all the time! We do shower gifts, wedding and brides maid gifts where we are matching colours, themes etc. We can also do multi-tone colours and specific scents.  Just email us and we will get your wish into our production schedule. Just give us at least 2 weeks notice for custom orders.

I hope that answers a few of your questions, feel free to reach out via email if you have others!
